Our second of four Baho coffees this year, this coffee is a classic station level blend of cherries from only three farmers, processed at Ngoma. The coffee is hand sorted throughout processing, and is carefully slow-dried with attention to temperature and sunlight. With a new program to give farmers additional payments months after harvest, Baho is able to pay at rates above the Rwandan coffee price ceiling. Due to market traders, pandemics and climate change, the coffee industry is increasingly volatile, so this year-round income is a crucial improvement in the lives of producers.
Ngoma is an incredible washing station, the attention to detail in the cherry sorting throughout the processing speaks for itself in the cup. This coffee is not some special separation lot of the best cherries and processing, this is a classic blend of cherries, produced and picked by three different growers. The coffee is very carefully dried with attention to how much heat and sunlight the coffee is getting throughout the long 29 day drying process. Ngoma is perfect example of how people focusing on the fundamentals and paying close attention to their coffee can produce an incredible result. No flashy tricks, just great care for the coffee.
